April 2009
Where we live, the burst of cherry blossoms reminds us that spring is here and our busy season begins. Space still remains on trips throughout Europe and North America so if you are feeling spontaneous, we've got great trips to tempt you.
I have just signed up for The Ride to Conquer Cancer taking place June 20+21 so if you live in Vancouver, BC or Seattle, WA (or somewhere nearby) consider joining our peleton- we’ll be providing Great Explorations jerseys for every rider. If you can’t make the ride, but would like to donate, this is a wonderful cause.
In addition to this cause, Great Explorations is again running a Kettle Valley Trail trip in July with www.thebigwild.org as a beneficiary and two local events on the Sea to Sky Trail and Sunshine Coast Trails in support of trails.

Kettle Valley Trail
It’s one of Canada’s most prized assets- an off-road trail that crosses British Columbia from Castlegar to Hope, a distance of over 700 km. Incorporated into the Trans-Canada Trail this route has garnered attention around the world as one of the premier point to point trails anywhere-Outside Magazine called it one of the top trips on the Planet. After the devastating fires of 2003, the trestles through Myra Canyon were damaged but they have since been re-built and are now open again. Our 2009 trip will be donating partial proceeds to www.thebigwild.org.
Summer departures- June 20-26 & July 11-17
US$845/CAD$995 (7 days/6 nights)

Ireland
People often ask me what my favorite trip is and I usually answer, ‘the last trip I was on’. I recently had the pleasure of going back to the west of Ireland and was thrilled to be back in the region, even more so because I was travelling by bike. Between the Burren, Aran Islands and Connemara is the most spectacular scenery, with a tremendous abundance of historical monuments, a rich and unique culture, and warm and inviting people. It’s exotic (Gaelic is common to hear among locals) and an afternoon or evening in one of our pub stops will remind you that are no longer in Kansas. Grab your tin whistle and join us. Departures:
Departures: Jun 17-23; Jul 1-7; 8-14; 15-21 & Aug 23-Sep 3
US$2250 (7 days/ 6 nights)

Who takes our trips?
When we first started Great Explorations we realized that one of the most important factors in the enjoyment of travel is the camaraderie of the people you meet on trips. Sure, the hotels and restaurants are important, as are the events and cultural exchanges we organize to ensure you connect with a region and its people, but one of the best things about our trips is the kind of people that take them. Spirited, open, active, and travel curious, the folks that come on Great Explorations trips make great company. Whether traveling solo, as a couple, you are sure to make fast friends on any of our trips. Esther (pictured here) has traveled with us to Tuscany; on the Camino de Santiago, Spain; in Turkey; on the Kettle Valley Trail in BC; and in the Dordogne, France. We're trying to tempt her to Croatia in September, 2009...
